Second Graders can participate in an activity in which students, while reading directly from a script, are able to tell an entertaining story.
Readers Theater is an activity in which students, while reading directly from scripts, are able to tell a story in a most entertaining form, without props, costumes, or sets. This is a reading activity, and students are not asked to memorize their lines. They are, however, encouraged to "ham it up" and use intonation and gestures appropriate to their characters and their characters words.
We will be concentrating on a few popular fairy tales as well as some popular library books. The students really enjoy this after-school activity while it promotes literacy and greatly improves reading fluency.

Four week program offered to grades 4 thru 6. For a $15 registration fee, students will be assisted in preparing or science fair projects/experiments.
The library has partnered with Westminster College's Science in Motion to assist students in the Greenville, Jamestown, Commodore Perry and Reynolds school districts in preparing for their science fair projects/experiments. General science themes are: Physics, Chemistry, CSI Agent Labs/Forensics, and Environmental/Life Sciences.
Every student will take home a science project related to the topic that week. Parent summary forms will be handed out each week describing the activity learned that will spread the fun and learning for the whole family. To ensure the hands-on, interactive nature of our instruction, class size will be limited to 30 students.
Students will participate in fun experiments like making slime, recycling paper, making a hovercraft from a balloon and watching raisins "dance." Students will also decide if substances are acids, bases or neutrals by using a household spice.
Registration must be completed and the $15 fee paid by March 1, 2012.
