May's quilt block is "Churn Dash". It gets one of its names from looking like the dasher in a butter churn. There are other names and you can read a little bit of the history of this block here.

This nine patch block can be made with four 5" squares of one color and five 5" squares of another color or, as you see here, with scraps. Other color variations abound!
